The last two British Land grand finalists become known
Myatt Gardens School, Lewisham, and Brackenbury School, Hammersmith & Fulham, have won through in the Lewisham League and the Brent and Hammersmith & Fulham play-off respectively to take the last two places in the finals of the British Land Kids Cricket League Grand Finals at MCC Indoor School, Lord’s, on Tuesday, March 23.
Brackenbury (50-5) beat Uxendon Manor, Brent (49) in 10.1 overs to win a hard-fought decider.
After two months of elimination contests throughout 18 inner London boroughs, the eight schools to win their way through to the Lord’s showdown are:
- Sir William Burrough (Tower Hamlets,)
- Myatt Gardens (Lewisham,)
- Brackenbury (Hammersmith & Fulham,)
- Brooklands (Greenwich,)
- Sheringdale (Wandsworth,)
- Grasmere (Hackney,)
- Canonbury (Islington) and
- Gateway (Westminster.)
Every player competing in the finals will receive a medal from Sir John Ritblat, president of British Land, and Mark Alleyne, MCC chief coach, and then Chris Grigg, chief executive of British Land, will present the British Land Trophy to the winning captain.
Four players picked out by Capital Kids Cricket coaches for outstanding skills will receive Tomorrow’s Superstars trophies, presented by a partner in the City law firm of CMS Cameron McKenna, the award sponsors.
And the team with the noisiest supporters will be presented with the Nick Tetley Memorial Prize by Mrs Pat Tetley.
